GOLF PERFORMANCE – Ben Percival

Where can you improve?

I am in the business of helping people play better golf, shoot better scores, enjoy the game more and be more aware and understanding of their golf swing.

Golfers that come to see me for a lesson generally assume they need to improve their technique to become a better player. While this is no doubt true, I can also help players shoot better scores with their current technique and a better understanding of their shot patterns. Take the picture below from a recent lesson.

This is the shot pattern from a single figure golfer I teach ( 7 iron.)

The grey line was his target , but you can see that even for a good player , the dispersion over 20 shots with a 7 iron was approximately 40 metres wide.

His tendency was to miss slightly right –  so with this information (gathered on Trackman ) we were able to talk about where he should be aiming when he plays on the course in order to make his next shot easier and shoot a better score. We could also measure carry distance and total distance of each shot. Understanding that EVERY golfer will have a dispersion pattern and planning shots ahead based on their individual pattern is a fantastic way to improve performance without changing technique .

Improved technique and skill will tighten the dispersion pattern… but we should not overlook what we currently have first.
