As another golfing year draws to a close many golfers start to think about creating a plan to improve their performance and enjoyment of their golf for the following year. If you are one of these people (which is a great thing !) I would encourage you to think carefully and make those goals for next year more process based and habit based rather than just results based. We all want to play golf closer to our potential and shoot lower scores – that is easy to say, but think about what will actually get you there. That is where we need to focus our effort.

Maybe your goal could be to practise your putting for one hour per week – rather than just to have less putts.

Or your goal might be to develop a consistent pre shot routine – rather than shoot a lower score

Or it could be to find out exactly how far you hit your wedges – rather than just become a better wedge player.

Process goals are things you have FULL CONTROL over. They are specific and measurable and achievable. They will help you breakdown your bigger goals into smaller pieces and help develop the new habits that must be formed to achieve your performance goals.

Pick 3 or 4 process goals relevant to your game , write them down and get to work as soon as you can on them.!

Merry Christmas to all of you – thank you for trusting me to help with your game in 2021 and I look forward to helping more of you in 2022.

Ben
