Privacy Policy

This policy applies to Town of Cambridge acting in its capacity as owner and operator of the Wembley Golf Course.

We abide by the provisions of the Privacy Act 1988 (Act). The Act contains 10 National Privacy Principles that set standards for the handling of personal information. We have a commitment to privacy and the safeguarding of member, visitor and staff personal information.

The NPPs, and accordingly this Policy, do not apply to information about our past and present employees which directly relates to that employment relationship, or to information which we acquire or hold in our capacity as a local government.

The personal information we collect about you is used primarily for:

  • the purpose of considering your application for membership of Wembley Golf Course;
  • to verify your identity;
  • for internal purposes such as procedural assessments, risk management, product and service reviews, accounting and billing;
  • providing membership benefits and services to you; and
  • the ongoing administration and management of those benefits and services and our relationship with you.

In addition, we collect this information for some secondary purposes, including:

  • marketing (including by mail, telephone, email or SMS) products and services; and
  • developing an understanding of the products and services you may be interested in receiving from us; and
  • to improve our services and to provide you with the latest information about those services and any new or related services and promotions.

We primarily collect information about you through correspondence we engage in with you, for example through the membership application form, emails and other communications we have with you. In some circumstances, such as when a membership is purchased as a gift, we collect personal information from a third party. This may include friends and relatives.

Usually, we only hold information about you if it is relevant to the services and products that we provide. Such information generally includes your name, address, date of birth, contact details, email address, any records of correspondence and payment details.

Depending on the circumstances, we may hold your information in either hardcopy or electronic form or both.

Generally, we will only disclose your personal information for a purpose that is related to the products and services that we are providing to you. This may include disclosures to organisations that provide us with professional advice, such as solicitors, accountants and business advisors, and to agents or contractors engaged by us or to whom we outsource certain functions including but not limited to electronic network administrators and external mailing houses. Where possible, we take contractual measures and in all other circumstances, take reasonable steps to ensure our contractors comply with privacy and confidentiality obligations.

We do not usually disclose your personal information to any other organisation or person unless there is a legal requirement to do so or it is permitted by the Act.

We may disclose personal information to relevant authorities if we believe that there is a threat to an individual's life, health or safety, or public health or safety. If we have reason to suspect that unlawful activity has been, is being or may be engaged in, personal information may be used or disclosed as a necessary part of any investigation and reporting to relevant persons or authorities.

If you do not wish to receive information about our services and promotions, we will, on request, remove your name from our mailing lists.

You have a right to access any personal information that we may hold about you, including a right of correction of your information. We will not charge a fee for you to access your personal information.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your personal information, you are entitled to lodge a complaint with the Federal Privacy Commissioner. Information regarding how to lodge a complaint is available from the Commissioner’s website at www.privacy.gov.au

This Privacy Policy may be amended by us from time to time and if we amend this Privacy Policy, we will post changes on this website.
